Frequently Asked QuestionsCity Fresh buys only enough food to fill our orders, and doesn't have a place to store food. If you do not pick up your share, the food will be donated and you will forfeit your share payment. We unfortunately cannot offer refunds or transfer payment to another date because we have already paid the farmers for your share. Please try to find someone else to pick up your share -- a great reason to make friends at your stop! If you can't find anyone to pick up your share for you, please let your stop volunteers know as soon as possible. Each Fresh Stop decides where to donate their extra food. If you know an organization who would benefit from City Fresh donations, please talk to a volunteer at your Fresh Stop. Thanks! Most stops could use your help with unloading the truck, setting out food, taking orders, accounting, planning events, etc... If you already pick up your share at a Fresh Stop, talk to the volunteers running the stop to see where you can lend a hand. If you'd like to offer other types of assistance, please let us know. City Fresh cares deeply about healthy food and environmental sustainablity, so we focus on relationships instead of regulations. We don't insist that the food we source has been grown according to a particular standard, but we work closely with all of our farmers to learn about their practices and motivations, and to ensure they understand ours. We are always evaluating our current providers and constantly developing relationships with other local farmers -- new potential providers. Sourcing only the freshest food that's local and in-season means we (and the farmer) typically won't know exactly what's going to be in the share until we get to the farm to pick it up. This ensures that our shareholders receive the best food available, and many shareholders think this element of surprise makes the stop that much more fun. City Fresh sources all of its food locally, buying from farms within 75 miles of the Fresh Stop. Typically, food is picked up directly from the farmer ealier the same day using our box truck that runs on waste grease and biodiesel. We cultivate relationships with each farmer to ensure they share the same respect and desire for healthy land and healthy food as we do. The 2009 season began the first week of June, and will end in October. Because all of our Fresh Stops are run by volunteers, each location gets to determine their individual start and stop dates for the season. Please ask a volunteer at your Fresh Stop when they will end the season. City Fresh shares are purchased one week in advance, and come in two sizes: Single and Family.
